Cumulative Layout Shift

Definition

CLS measures visual stability. It calculates a score based on how much elements unexpectedly shift around on the screen during the lifespan of the page, usually caused by images loading without explicit dimensions.

Explain Like I'm New

You go to tap a button, but a massive ad suddenly loads at the top of the page, pushing the button down, and you accidentally tap the wrong link. That's a terrible CLS.
